During the event we will honor Assemblyman Heath Flora as our 2019 Almond Champion of Year. Assemblyman Flora is being recognized for his leadership on educating his bipartisan colleagues on issues important to the California almond industry. Assemblyman Flora works diligently with multiple trade organizations to establish strong working relationships on both sides of the aisle and has helped his colleagues in Sacramento to better understand the almond industry. For the Almond industry specifically, Assemblyman Flora was instrumental in bringing to life the Almond Caucus, helped us implement our signature event “Almond Movers and Shakers” and the Almond Festival at the State Capitol.

Update on power outages in Northern California.

INDUSTRY ALERT: October 9, 2019 – – The Almond Alliance is monitoring the power outages in Northern California.  We are aware of seven members that have lost power.  We have been in regular contact with the PG&E agricultural customer managers to get updates on the conditions.  Two members that we know of had their power restored within the last hour.  We were advised that worst case scenario power will be restored by Friday, assuming weather subsides. PG&E believes that the winds will start dying down in the Northern Region Thursday and they can start patrolling the lines, complete any repairs, and energize customers thereafter.

PG&E online resources are experiencing high traffic delays, so included below are additional resources .

Almond Alliance will attend Oct. 17 CA Dept. of Pesticide Regulation Workshop on pre-plant fumigant

Oct. 8, 2019 – -The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) is inviting you to attend a workshop on October 17, 2019 to explore additional measures to protect bystanders and residents from acute (short-term) inhalation exposures to 1,3-dichloropropene (1,3-D). 1,3-D is a pre-plant fumigant used to control insects, nematodes, and other organisms in the soil that threaten a variety of crops including nut trees, berries, sweet potatoes, and grapes. It is commonly injected into the soil or applied through drip irrigation.

This DPR workshop will discuss the acute 1,3-D regulatory target concentration, possible 1,3-D mitigation measures, and timing for implementation. The workshop will also provide time to answer questions and hear suggestions for alternative approaches that would be equally effective in reducing acute exposure to 1,3D.

Attendees requiring interpretation services are requested to register by October 10, 2019. Register Here.

*This workshop will be webcast at

2019 Market Facilitation Program Workshops set for October

Oct. 1, 2019 – – USDA’s Market Facilitation Program (MFP) is continuing for the second year, providing almond growers with an opportunity to apply for direct payments to help alleviate the damage resulting from the global trade situation. Unlike the 2018 program when payments were based on delivered pounds, the 2019 MFP program is based on bearing acreage.  To learn more about the changes to the 2019 program, and how you can also apply for 2018 payments, the Almond Alliance of California and Almond Board of California are co-hosting workshops with local USDA Farm Service Agency offices.
