Jan. 10, 2018 – -Sen. Kevin De Leon (D-Los Angeles) has introduced SB 227, the Protect California Taxpayers Act, which would allow taxpayers to make a charitable donation to the “California Excellence Fund” that will appropriate monies to the state’s general Fund. Taxpayers will then be able to deduct dollar to dollar contributions to the Fund from their federal taxes. The measure intends to mitigate the new federal tax limitation of 10,000 in deductions for state and local property taxes.
A.B. 274, by Asssemblymember Christina Garcia (D- Bell Gardens), an effort to impose new taxes on “candy or confectionery” items and “processed snacks,” failed passage in the Assembly Tax and Revenue Committee.
