Almond Farmers Pioneering Sustainability in California
The Almond Orchard 2025 Goals are the latest way the California almond community is committed to continuous improvement. California almond farmers have already reduced the amount of water needed to grow a pound of almonds by 33 percent over the last two decades. And they are working with the Almond Board of California to reduce the amount of water needed per pound of almonds a further 20 percent by 2021 as one of their major sustainability goals. Three major practices- microirrgation, demand-based irrigation scheduling and ground water recharge – are all crucial to California water resources.
