Almond Farmers Pioneering Sustainability
The Almond Orchard 2025 Goals are the latest way the almond community is committed to continuous improvement. Almond farmers have already reduced the amount of water needed to grow a pound of almonds by 33 percent over the last two decades. And they are working with the Almond Board of California to reduce the amount of water needed per pound of almonds a further 20 percent by 2021 as one of their major sustainability goals. Three major practices- micro irrigation, demand-based irrigation scheduling, and groundwater recharge – are all crucial to California water resources.
